March in Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney!

Catching a breath between tours, it's time for an update. One Night Stand has just returned from an all too brief 4 show run at the Auckland Fringe Festival, where it was described as a "surprisingly touching true story". You can find that one here: http://www.theatreview.org.nz/reviews/review.php?id=5584

There is quite a bit coming up back in Australia though - you can find more details in the gig sidebar, but i'll be performing for the first time in Canberra on the 16th of March Mcing the massive Sound and Fury event which is super exciting! In Melbourne, Love on a Real Train is throwing a fundraising party on the 14th of March in Fitzroy which again i'll be hosting - thats sure to be an excellent trash-glamour night out! And over Easter weekend from 29th - 31st March i'll be in Sydney at the Hoopla festival down in Darling Harbour, appearing in the Full Cream Circus for 3 nights only, doing my handcuffs and balancing eggs routine in a show that also features stunning acrobatics, trapeze, cabaret acts and heaps more!

So as always - see you out there somewhere!

2013 - the year we thought we'd never see...

Gee i'm glad that the Mayan apocalypse turned out to be just a misguided (and slightly vacuous) attempt to create a spiritual revolution from an ancient culture, rather than the fire and brimstone that some pundits were promising. Why? Because of all the awesome gigs that i've got booked, thats why!

There's been so much on that its hard to keep track - but in brief, the last 3 months have been a riot of play, work and adventure. One Night Stand won an award (Original New Circus) at the Melbourne Fringe, after a sold out season in Brisbane, making for a very happy performer! And then the Great Gordo Gamsby an I triumphed with a massive effort to produce HappyLand for the Harvest Music Festival in Werribee Gardens. A spuriously Happy(tm) time was had by all, including the late night revelry that was unleashed on the second evening when all the employees went a bit bonkers from too much sun and sugar. A certain actor (who I'm sure will be famous and easily blackmailed in the future) was seen giving head to a candy striped dildo worn by a soft toy through the hole of a face-hole board. Also I knew that it was a good idea to make HappyLand underwear - they sold out! December saw some time off and a trip up the coast to Sydney and Austinmer, and then it was knuckle down time to prepare our new show The Syndicate for Falls Festival in Lorne. A brilliant new piece of late night sideshow action that wowed the crowds with its racy and explosive finale. I was privileged to work with two fine performers in Ella Bella and Bam Bam for that one, and you'll be seeing much more of us real soon - this show's got legs!

See the sidebar for more info on upcoming gigs, but in brief whats coming up next is the usual summer run around - i'll be passing through your town sooner or later it seems, bringing some old time carny-punk fire, so watch this space for more details. Coming up next is the Tasmanian Circus Festival with last years hit circus troupe Full Cream Circus (formerly Crack a Fat). Home in Melbourne at the start of February, and in collaboration with the fine people of the Bally, we'll be presenting special once off performances of The Syndicate and One Night Stand, on High st in Northcote. Then it's off to New Zealand for a tour of One Night Stand in Auckland and Wellington - so if you have friends in those parts; spread the word! And then, after New Zealand it will be north again for Full Cream Circus in Sydney as part of Hoopla! Phew! Lots to do, as you can see. If you're interested in catching up, drinking beer, helping me publicise and scoring an interview or a comp for any of the above shows, please get in touch via my contact form.

Otherwise I hope to see you out there at a show somewhere. Until then, stay freaky and live, love, laugh!

ONE NIGHT STAND is Selling Out!!

Following a SOLD OUT Brisbane season, One Night Stand opens in Melbourne this Saturday night!

We were pleased to receive a great review from Arts Hub on opening night. Flloyd Kennedy called the show "thought provoking, amusing and highly recommended"! Read the rest of the review here - http://www.artshub.com.au/au/news-article/reviews/performing-arts/one-night-stand-191814

In his first solo show, Captain Ruin takes the audience on a journey through prisons, punchlines and politics using striptease, daring sideshow stunts and a ferocious wit. Directed by Derek Ives (Candy Butchers, Circus Oz) this is honest, angry and topical circus with a social conscience - not to be missed!

Melbourne Fringe Festival Launch

I was invited to appear at the Melbourne Fringe Festival program launch today, which was a great honour. Plus i got my bearded mug in the Herald Scum and made fun of the Deputy Lord Mayor. I was dissappointed not to have the chance to remind Robert Doyle of his mistreatment of the Occupy Melbourne demonstrators, but perhaps he cancelled because he heard that I would be performing my egg piece :D

Here's a link to the paper's article with photo of yours truly!

To the future!

It's been a big year so far. After Woodford, Perth Fringe festival. After Perth, I spent 6 weeks in Adelaide performing with the fine freakshow company of the Sideshow Wonderland and Mutant Barnyard combined shows, in the Garden of Unearthly Delights. There I met and appeared on stage with one of the most heavily tattooed men in the world, a Texan native known as the Lizardman! In 2011 he was voted by Ripley's Believe It or Not as 'the strangest man in the world'. His real name's Eric. Awesome.

After Adelaide fringe I morphed into an old world steel beam clambering rigger for the local production of I Frankenstein. Here's me having a nap 30m off the ground in the abandoned Argus building in downtown Melbourne.

After all that work I felt it was time to get some adventure back into my system, so I took a few months out and travelled through the jungles of Borneo to meet the wild Orangutangs, hung out and cameoed onstage with Indonesian crust punks, and then flew to Africe to hitchhike through the great Saharan desert of Morocco.

And now? It's onwards and upwards - to the future! There is some really exciting things coming up in the world of Captain Ruin, not least of which is the revamped and reworked version of One Night Stand. Derek Ives and I have been plotting and scheming over the shows new direction, and i'm excited to say that i think it will be a whole lot darker, more clown-tragic and yet still firey and hell raising. It's premiering in Brisbane for Under the Radar from the 25th - 29th September, and then making its crash debut in Melbourne for the Fringe Festival on the 6th - 13th October.

And before that in September i'll be making an appearance with the League of Sideshow Superstars at the Adelaide Royal Show, at the Adelaide showgrounds, where i'll be joined by Tiger Lil, Samora Squid and the one and only Manx, in a show of epic proportions. See it to believe it!

So thats a very brief update - have a look around the site to find more show information, check out the photos from some of my recent adventures, and explore the dangerously wonderful world of Captain Ruin! Keep it freaky folks... :D
