BUNKER

Bleak, unsettling and nihilistic BUNKER premiered at the Woodford Folk Festival 14/15, capturing audiences with it's potent, mesmerising imagery and edgy, deranged stunt driven physical theatre. We were told on a few occassions that it was "the talk of the festival"! Opening with a blast of apocalyptic crust punk played live, and followed with an incredible experimental soundtrack created for the show by Samora Squid, BUNKER was a 50 minute onslaught of super-charged strangeness that stole your imagaintion and ran with it to some very unusual places indeed. Featuring acts such as the "Radio Pincushion", a world first performance of Ruin's "Death Machine" escape, Elle Diablo's Fire Eating and Crucifix Swallow and a Knife Throwing routine that literally had audiences fainting from the edge of their seats, BUNKER is off to a fine start. Stay tuned for details of an upcoming season in Melbourne! And in the meantime here is some excellent photos of the show taken by the lovely people from Dog and Fox Creatives. Enjoy :D

The Syndicate presents BUNKER at Woodford Folk Festival

The Syndicate is hugely excited to finally announce that we will be premiering a brand new show at Woodford Folk Festival. After an amazing run taking our previous self-titled show around Australia, we're proud to share the dates for our first run of BUNKER. Three kids, left behind by a suicide cult that thought the world was over, growing up underground, confused and alone. It's going to be dark, weird and kinky (in a Mormon dress-up sort of way). It features live music as well as a whole new soundscape by Samora Squid. It introduces Elle Diablo to our little group of misfits. And there is a whole range of spectacular never seen before stunts, escapes and dangerous feats to witness and wonder over. Drink the Kool-Aid and JOIN US, only at Woodford Folk Festival.

I debuted my new Knife Throwing act at the HiFi bar on Halloween for the fucking amazing behemoth that is Titty Twister! These guys put on such amazing shows - so many talented performers and musicians, so much enthusiasm from the crowd. You can see a small clip from the act in Beat TVs coverage of the event below - and there is a sweet new knife throwing promo video in the works also!

JUST US Season Wrap Up

Just Us, an ambitious new work of immersive physical theatre premiered on September 17th, 2014 at the Substation - a former industrial power plant, turned contemporary arts venue in Melbourne's inner West.

Just Us was set inside the "Court of Law Courts" and dealt with themes of bureacracy, social justice and discrimination. It was played out by 20 actors inside a fully immersive and custom built environment that the audience was free to explore, engaging with the multiple story lines and the daily functioning of the court house.

The skills of these performers ranged from puppetry to acting to physical theatre. This created a multi-disciplinary and spectacular work, satirising the justice system with a playfully absurd reflection of it.

A gallery of images from the show (still being edited - not to be downloaded or used without permission) can be viewed here - Dropbox, and video documentation by esteemed filmmaker Hamish McCormick is currently in production.

Directed by Mitch Jones, the show was produced by Polytropic Productions - a new production company fronted by Gordo Gamsby and Mitch Jones that has previously created temporary works for major festivals such as Harvest Music Festival, Woodford Folk Festival and Melbourne Festival. Alongside the 20 strong cast was a crew of 10 artists working behind the scenes, making Just Us remarkable for it's ambitious scale as an independant production.

Playing from the 17th - 22nd September, Just Us enjoyed sold houses, printed reviews and online reviews, and overwhelmingly positive feedback from industry peers.
