"Jones is irreverent and enigmatic, irresistible, driving the show and stitching many of its pieces together."

- Xanthe Coward, reviewing Circus Oz in Brisbane, 2017. Full review here

Captain Ruin is a punk rock daredevil who specialises in death defying escapes, pain proof sideshow stunts, knife-throwing, dynamic event hosting and the acrobatic circus arts. Born with a silver tongue and a golden smile, his outrageous antics will make sure your night is one to remember! Known as "Australia's Harry Houdini", he likes fast music, fast motorcycles and bad ideas!

Mitch Jones is a performer and professional unusualist hailing from Melbourne, Victoria with over 10 years of circus industry experience. He specialises in the arts of escapology, knife throwing and sideshow stunts such as the Human Blockhead, as well as hosting shows and large festival stages, creating high energy cabaret routines, and producing and directing immersive theatre and installations.

Currently Mitch works with Circus Oz, as well as performing solo as Captain Ruin and attempting to destroy capitalism through incendiary political complaining through ensemble project The Syndicate Sideshow. From 2012 - 2017, in collaboration with The Great Gordo Gamsby, Mitch created and produced several large scale works of immersive theatre as Glitch productions.

As Captain Ruin he has delighted audiences around the globe with his wit, punk rock charm and daredevil antics. Trained as a circus artist from age 15, he quickly took an interest in the darker and more experimental performance art of companies such as La Furas Del Baus after working with La Fura director Younes Bachir on “The Andante Project” in 2009.

Since then he has achieved renown as an independent performance maker who uses elements of escapology, circus, illusion and sideshow along with a strong sense of political satire and absurdity. His award winning solo show “One Night Stand” (Original New Circus award, Melbourne Fringe 2012) was described as
“thought-provoking, amusing and highly recommended” by Flloyd Kennedy on artshub.com.au.

"Just Us" a radical piece of promenade theatre written and directed by Mitch Jones, and produced by Glitch Productions, premiered in Melbourne in September 2014, with a cast of 20 actors, dancers, acrobats, puppeteers, clowns and a technical crew of 10 designers and artists. It enjoyed a sold out debut season and The Age newspaper called it "A red-tape dystopia ... reminiscent of Terry Gilliam films".
